Razon construction arm helps convert Manila stadium into COVID-19 facility

Enrique Razon’s Prime BMD leads the transformation of the Ninoy Aquino Stadium at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex to a COVID-19 facility.

MANILA – Enrique Razon’s construction unit said Monday it was helping the Philippines’ coronavirus task force transform a sports stadium in downtown Manila into an emergency COVID-19 health facility.

Prime BMD is converting the Ninoy Aquino Stadium at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex into a level 2 COVID-19 facility, it said in a statement.

The port and casino magnate’s Bloombery Cultural Foundation Inc is funding and overseeing phases 1 and 2 of the project, which will yield 224 patients’ cubicles, 2 nurses stations, temporary furniture and common areas, Prime BMD said.

“We feel that it is our duty to provide as much support as possible to the interagency task force and to the Filipinos to respond to this crisis,” Razon said.

The government will transform 3 public facilities, including the World Trade Center and the Philippine International Convention Center, to COVID-19 facilities, the Department of Public Works and Highways earlier said.

Several hospitals in Metro Manila said they were unable to accept new COVID-19 patients due to overcapacity.
