Philippines construction group Megawide touts US$545 million in contracts at Suncity’s Manila casino project
Philippines construction firm Megawide has touted a combined Php26.3 billion (US$544.2 million) in contracts it has been awarded in recent months as part of the development of Suncity Group’s hotel and casino project at Manila’s Westside City Resorts World.
Megawide, which holds a 43.5% stake in the project’s parent company, Suntrust Home Developers Inc, pointed to a series of contracts awarded during 2020, including Php6.3 billion for initial works such as pile cap, excavation and lateral support, basement substructure, superstructure and architectural builders works and finishes.
Another Php20.6 billion in work was awarded in December for management of nominated subcontractors for MEPF, interior design, allied services and more of the main hotel and casino, including additional architectural, structural and civil works.
“The requirements of Suncity, in terms of engineering excellence, quality workmanship, and speed to market, perfectly match Megawide’s expertise,” said Megawide Chairman and CEO Edgar Saavedra.
“We are thrilled to provide them with our full array of services for this landmark project and, with our experience completing similar projects of the same scope and scale, we are confident of delivering above the client’s expectations.”
Saavedra said he expects the project to take 30 months to complete once construction starts.
When finished it will cover an area of around 44,000 square meters, with a building floor area of 182,000 square meters. The project will include 400 gaming tables and 1,200 slot machines across both VIP and mass gaming, plus 400 five-star hotel rooms and 960 parking spaces.
Hong Kong-listed Sanctity Group owns 51% of Suntrust via its wholly-owned subsidiary Fortune Noble Ltd.
