MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Manila Development Authority and the Department of Public Works and Highways announced the full closure of the EDSA Timog Flyover-Southbound starting June 25 to give way to its one-month repair.
“We are advising the public to plan their trips and take alternate routes as the DPWH repairs the flyover,” said MMDA Chairman Romando Artes during an inspection at the flyover with DPWH-Quezon City Second District Engr. Eduardo Santos today.
The full closure of the flyover will take effect starting 6 a.m. Saturday, June 25. EDSA Carousel buses and private vehicles may use the service road and listed alternate routes.
In an advisory, the MMDA said that some 140,000 vehicles passing through the flyover daily will be affected by the closure. It offered the following routes to affected motorists:
- Alternate route:
Vehicles coming from EDSA southbound: Turn right at Scout Borromeo St., straight towards Scout Ybardolaza and J.D. Jimenez St., turn left at E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue, turn left at New York Avenue or take Aurora Boulevard to EDSA going to the destination - Mabuhay lanes:

To recall, both the MMDA and DPWH reported seeing potholes and cracks in the middle part of the lane going to Makati City.
The repairs, spanning 30 meters, include the reconstruction of the damaged bridge diaphragm and the construction of a new bridge deck slab of the flyover.
Ahead of the closure, Artes said they are intensifying the clearing operations on Mabuhay lanes to ensure that alternate routes are passable and obstruction-free. Despite the cracks, the MMDA chief assured motorists the flyover is “structurally sound.”
“Total closure of the bridge has to be implemented considering that the construction works have to be done without any vibration movement. Repairs will be done manually without heavy equipment,” said Artes.
