The Megawide-GMR Construction Joint Venture (MGCJV) has completed engineering procurement and construction (EPC) work at the Philippines’ Clark International Airport’s new passenger terminal building.
MGCJV handed over the completion certificate to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), marking the official handover of the facility to the Government of the Philippines.
The airport terminal was handed over to operations and maintenance partner Luzon International Premier Airport Development (LIPAD) for a final fit-out before the opening of all operations within the year.
LIPAD expects to complete its fit-out and interior finishing to start operations by July.
A joint project of DOTr and BCDA, the 110,000m² Clark International Airport New Passenger Terminal Building is the first hybrid public-private partnership (PPP) project under the government’s Build Build Build programme.
The terminal is located within the Civil Aviation Complex of the Clark Freeport Zone. Its construction marks the first phase of the airport’s expansion.
The project will increase passenger capacity to 12.2 million annually from the existing four million.
Megawide Construction chairman and CEO Edgar Saavedra said: “We are very proud to once again be involved in one of the most vital airport projects of this administration, and its undertaking to create an effective multi-airport strategy in Luzon.”
BCDA Conversion and Development senior vice-president Joshua Bingcang said: “We are very excited for the facility to finally operate this year, as it will not only decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Metro Manila and enhance the passenger experience for the Filipino people but will also boost economic growth here in Clark and of the whole region.”
The Megawide-GMR consortium started the terminal’s construction in 2018 and completed it last October.
