The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) upholds its commitment of improving accessibility and travel time and ensuring the safety of the traveling public with a total of 1,283 infrastructure projects completed in Central Visayas for the year 2021.

Secretary Roger G. Mercado said that DPWH Region 7 has completed the construction, rehabilitation, maintenance, and widening of 207.54 kilometers of national roads amounting to P3.6 billion, 25 bridges worth P571 million, and 57 flood control structures worth P1.4 billion funded under the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

In a report submitted to Senior Undersecretary Rafael C. Yabut, DPWH Region 7 Director Edgar B. Tabacon also mentioned the completion of six National Building Program projects, 258 Various Infrastructure including Local Projects (VILP), comprising of local roads, drainage facilities, public and multi-purpose buildings, and flood controls, 820 local projects, and two rainwater collector systems amounting to P4 billion.

Several projects were also undertaken in convergence with various government agencies, including: 24 farm-to-market roads with the Department of Agriculture worth P384.9 million; 15 school buildings with the Department of Education costing P8.7 million; 62 access roads leading to tourist destinations, ports, and airports with the Department of Tourism and Department of Transportation costing P587 million; 29 road projects under the ROLL IT Project with the Department of Trade and Industry worth P371 million; and other convergence projects amounting to P173.6 million.

“With ongoing projects and more in the pipeline, DPWH will continue to deliver quality, safe, and environmentally sustainable public infrastructure facilities for the benefit of every Filipino,” Secretary Mercado said. (DPWH)
