The TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database shows that dozens of four- and five-star hotel schemes are being lined up in the country, with nearly a third earmarked for Manila.
In the coming years, the Philippines’ hotel offering is set to grow by 61 projects with a total of 15,510 new rooms, our researchers report. We take a closer look at these upcoming launches.
Hotel openings in the Philippines by year
Nine new properties with 2,250 keys are slated for completion during the remaining months of 2021, while 2022 is shaping up to be a busy year too, with 20 more hotels and 5,557 rooms due to open their doors. Another 12 projects and 2,935 keys are in the pipeline for 2023, while 20 schemes and 4,768 are expected to follow in 2024 and beyond.
Of these 61 new hotels, two-thirds (42) will be in the four-star category, and the rest are targeting the five-star segment.
Key urban growth markets in the Philippines
The capital Manila is home to 19 new hotel projects – nearly a third of the total – which will grow the city’s room count by 4,784.
Meanwhile, Cebu City, another of the country’s key commercial centres, will see seven properties with 1,303 keys go live. And three schemes with 699 rooms are on their way over in Malay.
International hotel brands growing in the Philippines
Citadines Apart’hotels is currently the fastest growing hotel brand in the Philippines, with nine ongoing projects set to bring 1,824 rooms into play. This puts it well ahead of Somerset Serviced Residences, which will add three properties with 601 keys to its local footprint.
The fact that two serviced apartment brands top our rankings merely goes to show how demand for this type of accommodation is soaring throughout South-East Asia.
Finally, Pullman Hotels & Resorts is planning to open three properties with a total of 600 rooms.
Noteworthy hotel openings coming up in the Philippines
Starting with the capital, The Westin Manila Sonata Place is due to open on the main street of the Ortigas Business District in late 2022. Apart from 300 luxurious rooms, the hotel will offer three F&B venues, a gym, a spa and a swimming pool. In addition, it’ll deliver plenty of new options for event planners, with over 1,400 sq m of function space, including two ballrooms and six meeting rooms.
Pullman Manila at Primex Tower is another interesting launch scheduled to make its debut in late 2022. This 200-room hotel will boast two restaurants, a lobby lounge and a rooftop bar on the 50th floor promising dramatic views of the city’s skyline. Guests will also find a fitness centre, a swimming pool, a ballroom, a business centre and several meeting rooms.
Elsewhere, Arca South, an integrated mixed-use development in the Greater Manila Area, is set to feature offices, homes, lifestyle centres, retail spaces, entertainment hubs and dining destinations – plus the Seda Arca South, Taguig hotel. Scheduled to open by mid-2022, the 265-key property will offer guests convenient access to some of the Philippines’ finest amenities.
