California Energy & Power (CE&P) last week announced it has won the first contract to supply its vertical-axis wind turbines to engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm Hansei Corp for projects in the Philippines.

A vertical axis wind turbine’s axis of rotation is vertical relative to the ground, as opposed to the horizontal axis of traditional turbines.

Initially, turbines will be installed in strategic locations in the Asian country, with Hansei planning to deploy the turbines along a newly constructed expressway to power lighting systems, signalling/protection and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

The turbines will be combined with solar arrays for maximum power output in a small footprint. California Energy & Power is to begin shipping the turbines this year.

“Through our collaborative partnership with Hansei, there are planned deployments to power entire villages, government units, and electricity supply for commercial uses,” Joe DiBartolo, president of the US company, commented.
