AboitizPower, through its subsidiary Therma Marine Inc. (TMI), has officially broken ground on a 48-megawatt energy storage project in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.

This new venture, called the Nasipit Hybrid Energy Storage System (BESS), will be integrated into TMI’s existing oil-fired power facility, TMI Mobile 2, in Sta. Ana.

The project is aimed at improving grid stability, a crucial step in supporting the country’s shift towards renewable energy. It will store surplus electricity and release it when needed, helping balance the supply and demand on the grid, while also enhancing the overall quality of the power system.

Construction is set to begin in the second quarter of 2025, with the system expected to start operations by mid-2026. This project builds on AboitizPower’s previous success with its first hybrid BESS at the TMI Mobile 1 plant in Davao de Oro, which began operations in 2022.

The company’s BESS technology plays a key role in providing fast-responding power to ensure grid stability and support renewable energy integration.

AboitizPower’s commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future was echoed by Ronaldo Ramos, Chief Operating Officer for AboitizPower’s Transition Business Group, who highlighted how the Nasipit BESS will not only support grid stability but also facilitate the growth of renewable energy in the Philippines.

This project is part of AboitizPower’s strategy to expand its renewable energy footprint and build a more resilient and sustainable energy system for the Philippines, reflecting the company’s ongoing commitment to the country’s energy transition.
