Aboitiz family mulls $1 billion LNG project, construction starts in 2025

Therma Luzon, Inc. (TLI), a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corporation, is exploring a potential $1 billion investment in a combined cycle gas power plant (CCPP) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal.

The project, located in Pagbilao, Quezon, aims to begin commercial operations by 2028, with construction slated to commence in 2025.

“Utilizing LNG for power generation and the construction of this LNG terminal and CCPP is a strategic choice and an important step towards the cleaner energy future of the Philippines,” TQE said.

The project design involves delivering LNG to a floating storage unit and an onshore buffer tank. The regasified LNG will then be transported to the power plant.

TQE will be responsible for managing the Pagbilao 4 and 5 units.
