The Philippine Ports Authority has opened a new light craft landing station at the Port of Benoni on the island of Camiguin.
The facility is designed to improve the handling of smaller commercial vessels and strengthen maritime links between Camiguin and neighbouring islands.
The project includes a dedicated landing area for light craft and upgrades intended to separate smaller vessel operations from larger ferry traffic at the port.
PPA also completed a new port operations building at Benoni as part of the wider modernisation programme.
Construction of the landing station was awarded to Jejor’s Construction Corporation under a contract worth Ps86.93m ($1.5m).
Benoni is Camiguin’s principal maritime gateway and handles passenger, vehicle and cargo traffic connecting the island with northern Mindanao and the central Philippines.
The new infrastructure is expected to improve vessel turnaround, passenger movement and cargo handling while increasing capacity at the port.
