MANILA, Philippines — On orders of President Marcos, the controversial footbridge in Quezon City dubbed by commuters as “Mt. Kamuning” is getting a replacement, and based on the budget allocation, it could cost as much as P89 million.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) yesterday released an invitation to bid for the design and construction of the new Kamuning footbridge.

The DOTr said it is prepared to spend as much as P89.13 million for the project.

The structure will be turned into a split footbridge, with the northbound side landing at the Department of Public Works and Highways’ office. The southbound steps are in front of Glam Residences.

The footbridge will also link to the EDSA busway stop.

Based on the bidding call, the contractor must finish the project within 180 days.

In June, President Marcos ordered Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon to replace the footbridge, which is equivalent in height to a five-story building.
