The Philippine government, through the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), has initiated a tender process for the construction of a dedicated port that will accommodate large cruise ships in the resort town of Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro province.

A budget of approximately PHP706 million (US$12.1 million) has been approved for the port’s construction, which the PPA said should last no more than 780 calendar days.

The PPA has also advised that bidders should have completed a prior contract for similar port construction works.

The PPA’s Bids and Awards Committee will hold a pre-bid conference at 10:00 local time on Friday, January 10, at the PPA head office in Manila’s South Harbor area. The deadline for submission of tenders is set at 13:00 on February 5, 2025.

The PPA has already begun operating a dedicated cruise ship port in Siargao in Surigao del Norte province. Other cruise ship ports are already under construction in the provinces of Aklan, Camiguin, and Palawan.
