Construction of Panguil Bay Bridge expected to start January 2021 – DPWH
Metro Manila – The construction of the ₱7.3-billion Panguil Bay Bridge in Northern Mindanao is expected to kick off in January 2021, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
CWS Party-list Rep. Romeo Momo Sr., who sponsored DPWH’s proposed budget for 2021, said on Wednesday that the construction will immediately start once the design of the bridge is completed by December.
“So once completed the detailed engineering design of this project, the actual construction will immediately start,” said Momo. “Therefore, it this (design) will be completed in December, the actual construction work will start in the month of January 2021.”
The 3.7-kilometer mega bridge will connect Tangub City in Misamis Occidental and the town of Tubod in Lanao del Norte.
Momo added that the completion of Panguil Bay Bridge might take three years.
The DPWH met in February with Korean joint venture contractor Namkwang-Kukdong-Gumgwang, which will undertake the project.
The project is funded by a loan agreement between the Philippine government and Korean Export Import Bank.
Panguil Bay Bridge is expected to reduce travel time between Tangub City and Tubod from two and a half hours to only seven minutes.
Once completed, it will surpass the San Juanico Bridge as the longest in the Philippines.
